Join us for Sandwell’s Remembrance services and parades

On Sunday (9 November), events will be held across Sandwell to mark Remembrance Sunday.

People from all faiths, backgrounds and cultures will unite to commemorate the service and sacrifice of our fallen heroes.

Anyone wishing to watch the parades is advised to be there from 10.30am. Parades will be followed by services, during which a two-minute silence will be observed at war memorials at 11am.

This year, there will be parades with services in the following locations:

  • Great Barr: St Margaret’s Church
  • Oldbury: Civic Square, Oldbury
  • Rowley: Powke Lane Cemetery
  • Smethwick: Smethwick Council House
  • Tipton: Victoria Park
  • Wednesbury: Memorial Gardens
  • West Bromwich: Dartmouth Park

These events have been organised by the Royal British Legion and local community groups, with support from Sandwell Council.

The services are open to anyone who would like to pay their respects. Members of the public are advised there will be temporary road closures for parades during these events.

The Mayor of Sandwell, Councillor Steve Melia, said: “Every Remembrance Sunday we pause and unite to reflect on the sacrifices of those who gave their lives for our freedom. We will proudly honour those who have served in our armed forces, and their families, from Britain and around the Commonwealth. We will remember those who sadly never returned home.

“We also take the opportunity to thank all those who serve today and the families who support them every step of the way.

“I hope residents across Sandwell can attend one of the Remembrance services taking place throughout our community.

“I would like to sincerely thank the Royal British Legion, local community groups and Sandwell staff who take part and help organise these important commemorations – the day simply wouldn’t be possible without their dedication and support.”
