Former Outdoor Market Site works
Sandwell Council have started remediation works at the Former Outdoor Market Site in Wednesbury town centre as part of ongoing efforts to prepare the land for future uses as highlighted in the Wednesbury Town Centre Masterplan.
These works are scheduled for four weeks and will focus on stabilising shallow mine workings beneath the site. It is important to note that this is not the start of any development or construction, and these are preparatory works to ensure the site is safe.
The Council recognises that noise disruption will occur due to drilling and machinery during working hours (Monday–Friday, 8am–5pm) and thanks local businesses, residents, and visitors for their patience. Every effort will be made to minimise inconvenience where possible.
Funded through the Wednesbury Levelling Up Partnership by the government, this work is an important step in securing the site and preparing it for future regeneration opportunities that will benefit local residents, following last year’s remediation of High Bullen Car Park and the former Spires Health Centre site on Victoria Street.
Please note that these works are strictly ground stabilisation and safety measures. No construction or redevelopment will take place at this stage, and any future proposals will be subject to further planning processes and consultation.
